Congratulations to Rotary International District 9790 who were awarded the Children First Foundation Pat Weldon Humanitarian Award at our recent Gala Ball.

The award acknowledges Rotary’s extraordinary contribution to changing the lives of over 400 disadvantaged children during the past 20 years.

This year we celebrated 20 Years of Giving Small Lives Big Hope. We simply couldn’t mark this milestone without recognising the extraordinary contribution made by Rotary International District 9790.

Left to right: Bernie Lamers (Rotary Club of Preston), Geoff McIlvenna (Rotary Club of Preston), Brian Peters (District Governor), Roger Langley (Chairman, Children First Foundation) and Noel Baker (Rotary Club of Southern Mitchell)

Rotary has supported Children First Foundation from the very start even before our formal establishment in 1999.

The land on which our Retreat stands in Kilmore was donated by local Rotarian, Noel Baker and his wife, Janis.

A house was donated by Fraser McNaught from Rotary Club of Bright – and was transported from Bright to Kilmore.

Volunteers from various Rotary Clubs re-built and fitted it with donated materials and fixtures – led by the then Rotary District Governor, Geoff McIlvenna and fellow Rotarian, Bernie Lamers.

Over the past 20 years, our relationship with Rotary and District 9790 has continued to grow from strength to strength. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we’ve received.

Children First Foundation wouldn’t be celebrating this 20-year milestone without the determination, generosity and compassion of Rotarians across District 9790 and beyond.

Rotary is a true partner and friend of Children First Foundation.

The annual Humanitarian Award is presented in memory of our late friend and colleague, Pat Weldon. Pat was a former Children First Foundation staff member and friend. He was the epitome of selflessness and compassion.
