Renos at The Retreat!
With Christina’s departure, we are ‘officially’ (but rest assured temporary) empty nesters. And so, we are donning our renovation overalls and putting this unique time to good use by smartening up The Retreat.
When did we last do major renovations?
We did some digging around and realised the last time we’d done any significant renovations was about eight years ago. Since then, we’ve had 75 kids, plus carers, stay at The Retreat!
So, while we’ve been taking care of the kids non-stop, it’s no wonder the building has missed out on some of our love and care.
“We’ve wanted to spruce up The Retreat for a while now”, says Deb, our Retreat Manager.
“But it’s quite challenging to do all these jobs with a house full of kids and a jam-packed schedule of medical appointments, rehabilitation, and physiotherapy. It’s unlikely The Retreat will ever be empty like this again, so we are making the most of the opportunity.”
All the bedrooms are currently having a mini facelift, with holes in walls filled, some walls re-plastered, each room given a lick of fresh paint and a new set of curtains. Next, we will start working on the communal areas of the house.
We hope to have The Retreat shining in its full glory by the time our next child, Zenilda, arrives in a few weeks.
A huge thank you to Haymes Paints and Australian Brush Company for donating all the required paint and brushes, Kiwanis Bayside for donating new pillows and of course, to the staff involved for making it all happen!
