Lengkon was hopping to school: he’s now kicking a soccer ball with both legs
Feel Good Friday with Children First Foundation!
Children First Foundation helps children like Lengkon to receive vital medical care unavailable in their home country, either at home in Australia
I am thrilled to share Lengkon’s story with you – because thanks to your generosity, he was able to receive the care he so urgently needed!
Lengkon arrived in Melbourne with his mum Joana from Vanuatu, to undergo stump revision surgery and be fitted for a prosthetic leg.
At just ten years old, Lengkon had only recently received crutches to help him with mobility. Before that, he was hopping on his left leg to get around, including going to school.

The journey to Australia was a long one. Lengkon lives in a remote village in Vanuatu and first had to travel a great distance to Port Vila before eventually landing in Melbourne.
Despite the long trip, Lengkon’s joy landing in Australia was immediate. From visits to the petting zoo to time at the playground, he showed the joy and curiosity that every child deserves to experience.

Under the expert care of A/Prof Leo Donnan from VicOrtho, Lengkon underwent stump revision surgery to allow for a more comfortable prosthetic fit. The surgery was a success, and he recovered incredibly well.
Following plenty of rest and regained strength, Lengkon met with Dan at OAPL for prosthetic casting and fitting. Soon after, he took his very first steps with his new prosthetic leg, and he was a natural!
With the support of Meredith from Offspring Health, Lengkon walked into his mother’s arms for the first time. He even kicked a football with both legs, moments you can see captured below.

Now back home home in Vanuatu, Lengkon’s future is full of possibility. Whether it’s playing soccer with his friends, walking to school, or perhaps even riding a bike one day, his world has opened in ways that once seemed impossible.
Thank you for the compassion and care you have shown Lengkon over these past months. Your generosity has truly changed his life.
