Save lives this festive season
Please give a gift of hope and health to children like Jack.
On a remote island off Vanuatu, Jack was born with a large lump on his face. Fearful that he would hurt himself, and to keep him away from curious eyes, his mum Boufa was careful to shield her son from others.
By a sheer stroke of luck, some visitors from Victoria came across Jack. They were eager to help and referred him to Children First Foundation.
As our medical team investigated, it quickly became apparent that the lump was a life-threatening encephalocele – a neural tube defect characterised by sac-like protrusions of the brain and the membranes that cover it through openings in the skull. Urgent surgery was required, which was simply not possible in Vanuatu.
Thanks to the support of generous people like you, Jack was rushed to Australia for life-saving surgery and treatment. Surgeons first had to use ground-breaking techniques to expand little Jack’s skull, before removing the disfiguring and dangerous tissue.
Your gift this festive season will save and change the lives of other children, just like Jack.
Without surgery, Jack’s prognosis would have been dire
Now back at home in Vanuatu, a small and neat scar across Jack’s nose is the only evidence that remains of the encephalocele, a condition which, if left untreated, could have ended his life.
Your donation today can save the lives of children, just like Jack.
Jack is thriving today
Today, Jack not only has a new face, but a new life in which he can thrive and grow.
“Jack no longer has headaches, he is always playing and never sits down!” – Boufa, Jack’s mum.
Your gift this festive season will change the lives of other children, just like Jack and give hope to mums, like Boufa.
1.7 billion children and young people worldwide do not have access to appropriate surgical care.
-
That’s almost 7 in 10 children and adolescents worldwide who miss out on surgery that could save their life, prevent a disability or allow them to reach their full potential.
-
65% of the world’s children and adolescents without access to surgical care live in lower-middle income countries.
It is this inequality that we at Children First Foundation are passionate about addressing – because where a child is born should not govern their right to live a healthy and happy life.
Your donation will enable more children, just like Jack, to receive the life-changing medical care they desperately need – and a chance at a brighter future.
You can make a huge difference
Your gift today will help facilitate critical surgery and treatment for disadvantaged children from developing countries. Sometimes surgery is needed to save a child’s life; sometimes to change it – enabling them to attend school, live, walk and run pain-free or simply to become a more active member of their community.
