Zenilda’s Letter to You

Home > Zenilda’s Letter to You

Hello. My name is Zenilda.

I am 12 years old, and I live my family in Bebonuk, which is in Timor Leste. I live with my mother and father and my three brothers and sisters. I am the second oldest child.

When I learnt I was coming to Australia I feel excited and afraid too. I watched on YouTube about spinal surgery, and it was very complicated. But I know as long as I suffer from this disease, I will feel not happy so I will be brave.

About one year ago I stopped going to school. I feel not happy because I can’t go to school and can’t do activities that I want to, like help my mother wash dishes and house mop.  It’s difficult because even when I just put my head down, I feel bad back pain.

I hope after the surgery I want to be normal life like other people. I want to get better so that I can go back to school.  My favorite thing to study is mathematics and not my favorite is natural science. If I could continue my study, I would like to study education because I want to be a teacher like my mother.

Merry Christmas to all of you. I thank you for help to bring me to Australia to have treatment, I thank you to all your support and I really appreciated for that.

Thank you very much

 Zenilda

Zenilda is on her way to fulfilling her dreams for a normal life, BUT she still needs your help to get there.

As Zenilda accurately deduced from her YouTube research, it is likely her surgery will be complex. We anticipate she will require up to 10 days in hospital and at least four months of recovery and rehabilitation at The Retreat. We expect Zenilda will need to stay in Melbourne for approximately seven months to complete all stages of her assessment, surgery, and rehabilitation.

Even if surgical care can be secured pro bono, costs such as travel and visas, pre and post-surgical tests, medication, rehabilitation, food and other supplies must be found for every child. Zenilda, and all the other children we are expecting soon, have already waited too long to receive the care they need. Therefore, it is even more crucial that everything is in place to help them as soon as they arrive. Your donation today will make sure we are ready to help them.

This is the reason I am asking for your support today. Your gift will change Zenilda’s life and the lives of other children just like her.

Your support so far has enabled Zenilda to take the first steps in her journey back to health – back to school, a more normal life, and a happy future. I know that you are committed to ensuring that Zenilda and all the other children waiting for our care can make the rest of that journey as soon as they can. Any support that you can give this festive season will be sincerely appreciated.

From our family to yours, thank you for your kindness and compassion, and we wish you a happy and healthy new year.

All donations over $2 are fully tax deductible.
